A county lines drug dealer who police said thought he could travel into York “undetected” has been jailed.

Bradford drug dealer Haqeem Hussain, 28, believed he could profit from bringing drugs into the area, said PC Damion Liversidge, of North Yorkshire Police.

The force said it received intelligence linking Hussain to a county lines drugs network known as the “AX Line”.

Hussain was arrested and a warrant was carried out at his home address in Bradford.

During the search, police said officers recovered a “significant quantity” of wraps prepared for street-level supply, which were found in the same drawer as the dealer phone used to operate the AX Line.

Analysis of the phone showed it was linked to several journeys from West Yorkshire into North Yorkshire during which the line was used to facilitate the supply of drugs, police said.

A drugs expert later concluded that bulk messages sent from the AX Line phone, along with subsequent conversations, related to the supply of both heroin and crack cocaine.

Hussain, of Hunters Park Avenue, Bradford, was charged with being concerned in the supply of Class A drugs between March 2026 and his arrest. He subsequently pleaded guilty.

He was jailed for three-and-a-half years at York Crown Court. He was also ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £228.

After the hearing, PC Liversidge said: “The supply of illegal drugs fuels crime, exploitation and violence in our communities, causing significant harm to individuals and their families.

“Hussain believed he could travel into North Yorkshire undetected and profit from bringing drugs into our communities. Thanks to the proactive work of our officers, he was identified, arrested and brought before the courts. I welcome the sentence imposed.

“Operation Sentry will continue to take a robust and proactive approach to disrupting and dismantling county lines drug networks. We would urge anyone with information about drug-related activity in their area to come forward and share it with us so we can take action against those responsible.”

Since launching in September 2024, North Yorkshire Police said its Operation Sentry has dismantled 23 county drug lines, with 32 offenders arrested, charged and remanded, receiving a combined 821 months in prison.

“If you’re concerned about drug-related crime in your area or think someone may be a victim of drug exploitation, you can report it via our website,” a police spokesperson said.

“You can also report anonymously via the Crimestoppers website or by calling 0800 555 111.”
