Drug dealer caused ‘significant harm’ selling heroin and cocaine in York

A drug dealer who thought he could supply York with heroin and cocaine undetected has been jailed.

Haqeem Hussain, 28, of Hunters Park Avenue, Bradford, was involved in a county lines operation bringing drugs into York.

Known as the “AX Line”, transactions were arranged and delivered via messages found on two phones, including Hussain’s personal handset.

They were recovered during a police raid at his home, along with a significant quantity of wraps prepared for street-level supply of heroin and cocaine.

Phone evidence also revealed many journeys from West Yorkshire into York for the illegal operation.

Officers from Operation Sentry, North Yorkshire Police’s serious and organised crime team, acted after receiving intelligence linking Hussain to the “AX Line”.

Hussain was charged with being concerned in the supply of Class A drugs between March 2026 and his arrest. He subsequently pleaded guilty.

At York Crown Court on Monday (12 October), Hussain was sentenced to three and a half years imprisonment. He was also ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £228.

Police Constable Damion Liversidge, of North Yorkshire Police’s Operation Sentry Serious Organised Crime Team, said: “The supply of illegal drugs fuels crime, exploitation and violence in our communities, causing significant harm to individuals and their families.

“Hussain believed he could travel into North Yorkshire undetected and profit from bringing drugs into our communities.

“Thanks to the proactive work of our officers, he was identified, arrested and brought before the courts. I welcome the sentence imposed.

“Operation Sentry will continue to take a robust and proactive approach to disrupting and dismantling county lines drug networks.

“We would urge anyone with information about drug-related activity in their area to come forward and share it with us so we can take action against those responsible.”

County lines is the name given to drug dealing where organised criminal groups (OCGs) use phone lines to move and supply drugs, usually from cities into smaller towns and rural areas.
