Shoppers have been warned to stop wearing wedge sandals over fears wearers could fall.
Fashion retailer Next has recalled the Mint Velvet Raya Espadrille Wedge Sandals after watchdogs identified a risk of injuries.
A product safety recall notice was published by the Office for Product Safety and Standards on October 13, 2026.
The government body acts as the national regulator for consumer product safety across the UK.
It was found that the footwear presents an 'injury risk' because the footbed of the shoe can become dislodged from the wedge heel (Image: OPSS)
Watchdogs identified that the footbed can become dislodged from the wedge heel during wear.
If the footbed unexpectedly detaches during use, wearers could lose their balance and fall, leading to injuries.
Safety officials confirmed that the footwear fails to meet the legal requirements of the General Product Safety Regulations 2005.
Shoppers should look out for the Mint Velvet Raya Espadrille Wedge Sandals sold by Next in light tan and brown.
The items are classified under general purpose footwear, with their country of origin recorded as unknown.
Buyers should check their footwear for affected model numbers Y79431 and Y79434.
Local Authority Trading Standards submitted the product safety alert under notification number 2610-0072.
Next has initiated corrective action to recall the sandals from end users.
The retailer has contacted consumers who purchased the heels directly to explain the recall process.
Anyone who owns the sandals is advised to stop using them immediately.
Owners should follow the instructions provided by Next to arrange for a full refund or a replacement.
