A bid to transfer a city centre shop’s alcohol licence to a woman who was found selling counterfeit cigarettes has been withdrawn.
On Tuesday, Bradford Council’s Licensing Panel was due to decide whether Oliwia Talarek could take on the licence for Lynxes on Sunbridge Road.
Police had written to the panel urging them to block the transfer.
But those present at the meeting were told the licence request had been withdrawn.
In June, Mohammed Jamal was stripped of his licence to sell alcohol at his two Bradford stores – Lynxes on Sunbridge Road and another branch on Kirkgate.
The revocation came after Trading Standards raids at the two stores in April, raids that uncovered counterfeit tobacco and, in the Sunbridge Road store, throwing knives.
Mr Jamal has already appealed the decision to revoke the licences, and his appeal will be heard at Bradford Magistrates Court next month.
But alongside that appeal, Mrs Talarak applied to have the licence for the Sunbridge Road store transferred to her.
The letter from police told members that she was a member of staff at Lynxes that was present during the raids in spring.
It said: “West Yorkshire Police object to the application because the applicant has a direct and significant connection to the operation of the premises during the period that gave rise to the review proceedings and subsequent revocation.”
