A University of Sunderland graduate is waking up the nation as a presenter on BBC Radio 1.
Bobbi Bunker, 24, from Sunderland, is hosting the station’s Weekend Early Breakfast show every Saturday and Sunday from 6am to 7am throughout October.
Ms Bunker graduated in 2024 with a degree in media production and developed her radio skills at the university’s community station, Spark.
Ms Bunker said: "After being part of the station’s Christmas Takeover at the end of 2025, being asked back is a real honour.
"One of my favourite memories this summer was dancing my heart out with my friends at Radio 1’s Big Weekend in Sunderland, in my local park, seeing first-hand the impact the station has.
"To now be a small part of that and hopefully a small part of someone’s day when they listen is something I’m really grateful for."
Richard Berry, associate professor in radio and podcasting at the University of Sunderland, added: "Bobbi is a bright and engaging presenter, who was a key part of our team at Spark.
"She’s now doing amazing work across the media industry, alongside her SU duties, and I’m sure listeners will instantly warm to her."

After graduating, Ms Bunker went on to present for BFBS (British Forces Broadcasting Service) in Colchester.
She has since returned to the North East, freelancing in radio while working for Sunderland Students’ Union as marketing, communications, and engagement lead.
