A photo exhibition telling the story of the defence of a town in Ukraine has been installed in Edinburgh.
Chasiv Yar: Fireproof consists of 30 photographs mounted on fences which once stood on the battlefield in the Donetsk city, and has been installed outside the National Gallery.
It is accompanied by a poem by Serhiy Zhadan set to the sounds of the fighting.
The hilltop city of Chasiv Yar has been one of the key battlegrounds in the war in Ukraine, particularly since the fall of Bakhmut around 15km away.

The Battle of Bakhmut has been described as the bloodiest battle on European soil since the Second World War, with up to 400 soldiers being killed per day in a "meat grinder".
The first direct Russian assault on Chasiv Yar began in April 2024, but it has been fiercely defended by the Ukrainian forces, in particular the 24th Danylo Mechanised Brigade.
Russia claimed to have captured the city in May 2025, but as of November last year Kyiv still claimed to control parts of it.
The town itself has been almost completely destroyed by the fighting, and since the full-scale invasion most of its population has left.

In 2021 its population was around 12,500 but fewer than 500 now remain.
As of the 2001 census its population was 73% ethnic Ukrainian and 24% Russian, with a roughly 50-50 split in the languages spoken.
Ivan Petrychak, communications head of the 24th Separate Mechanised Brigade said: "This exhibition is another opportunity to draw attention to the war and remind us why support for Ukraine remains important."
While visiting Scotland the brigade met with Scots who had fought in the Ukrainian defence forces as well as a veteran who moved to the country after being wounded in Chasiv Yar.
In the coming days, a documentary about the two-year defence of Chasiv Yar by the 24th Separate Mechanized Brigade and related units will also be presented in Edinburgh. The film contains combat footage that servicemen filmed during the defence of the city.
The Edinburgh exhibition will run until October 21 inclusive.
