A man accused of carrying a machete and robbing a man close to York city centre has been remanded in custody.

Alfie Fowler, 21, was arrested after an incident on Sunday that led to Park Street in York, off Leeman Road, being closed for a time by police.

He is alleged to have robbed a man of a Rolex watch and a Dior bag in York and to have had a machete at Hull Railway Station when he was arrested.

Fowler, of Ripley Close, Hull, did not enter a plea to either charge when he appeared at York Magistrates' Court

As robbery can only be tried by a judge and jury, magistrates sent the case to York Crown Court for trial.

Fowler will make his next court appearance on November 9, when he will attend a plea and trial preparation hearing at which he will be expected to enter his pleas.
