A MAN in his 50s has been arrested on suspicion of assault following a "violent altercation" in a North Yorkshire coastal town, police said.
The county's police force said the incident took place in Upgang Lane, Whitby at around 7.45pm on Sunday, October 4, and involved an alleged assault on the driver of a stationary Land Rover Discovery.
North Yorkshire Police said it believes the incident began outside Gino's Pizza on White Point Road.
A police spokesperson said: "The driver and another person, who was also driving a Land Rover Discovery, are said to have then followed the suspect on foot.
"The driver who was initially assaulted did not require hospital treatment."

The man was seen holding a dog on a lead during the alleged "altercation", which was not harmed, police said.
Both Land Rovers involved were described as dark in colour and muddy.
