Late-night trains disrupted after tree falls on rail tracks near York

Rail services were disrupted last night after a tree fell on the line near York.

Trains in and out of York were severely delayed or cancelled while work to remove it took place.

Residents near the railway reported a lot of activity including police at the tracks close to the Nestle factory.

TransPennine Express reported the problem at 9.14pm, saying: “Due to a tree blocking the railway between Scarborough and York all lines are blocked.

“Train services running to and from these stations may be cancelled, delayed or revised.”

It said the line reopened an hour later.
