Final days of Bradford's old Kirkgate Market captured in archive photos

Bradford photographer Jerry Smith took many photos of Bradford markets.

His daughter, Jo Singh, shares these photos of the old Kirkgate Market, taken in January 1973.

The market was demolished later that year.

'There were many popular stalls and cafes, all with similar menus of hamburgers, soup, Horlicks, Bovril, ice creams, and of course tea and coffee,' says Jo. (Image: Jerry Smith)

Jo's mum was one of many protesters against the market demolition. 'They stayed inside overnight to try and prevent it and were arrested in the morning,' recalls Jo. (Image: Jerry Smith)
