BRADFORD HOUSEHOLDS, along with the rest of the UK, who do not watch live television could claim a TV Licence refund of up to £180.
Anyone with a valid licence who no longer watches live broadcasts or BBC iPlayer can apply to cancel their cover and get money back.
TV Licensing calculates refunds based on the number of complete unused months remaining before the licence expires.
Applicants must have at least one full month left on their licence to qualify, meaning refunds can cover between one and 11 months.
Official guidance states: "Any refund due is calculated in unused months. You must have at least one complete month left on your licence that you won’t need before it expires.
"So, you could get a refund for between one and 11 months, depending on how long you have left on your licence."
TV Licensing aims to process and issue approved refunds within 21 days of receiving an application.
Payments are issued either by cheque or directly into a bank account through a BACS transfer.
Households cannot claim a refund if there is less than one month between the cancellation date and the expiry date.
When do I need a TV Licence?
A TV Licence is legally required to watch or record live television on any channel or service, including Freeview, Sky and Virgin Media.
Cover is also required to watch live programmes on streaming services such as Amazon Prime Video, ITVX, YouTube and Netflix.
Anyone using BBC iPlayer must also hold a licence, whether watching live, catch-up or on-demand content.
Viewers do not need a licence to watch on-demand programmes on services like Netflix, Disney Plus or Amazon Prime Video, provided they are not broadcast live.
Watching DVDs or on-demand clips on video websites without live broadcasts also does not require a licence.
Am I eligible for a free TV Licence?
Households may also qualify for a free TV Licence if someone living at the address meets specific criteria.
Residents aged 75 or over who receive Pension Credit can claim a free licence rather than paying the annual fee.
Guidance from TV Licensing confirms: "Free TV Licences are only available if you’re 75 or over and you, or your partner living at the same address, are receiving Pension Credit."
Eligible residents can apply online or by calling 0300 790 6117 between 8.30am and 6.30pm on weekdays to request a paper form.
Those applying for a free licence do not need to cancel their existing Direct Debit, as TV Licensing will cancel payments automatically and issue any refund owed.
