A COMEDIAN has revealed how as a child on a family holiday he walked his cat on a lead up Penyghent.
Hugh Dennis, 64, speaking on BBC R4's Your Mum programme, talked about his eccentric parents and how his mother insisted on taking their Burmese cat on holidays, including to the Yorkshire Dales.
"We used to go caravanning and my mum would not accept the fact that the cat would be absolutely fine at home, she just wouldn't have it, someone would come in and nick it.
"So we took the cat on holiday every year, everywhere we went," said the comedian, actor, impressionist and writer who grew up in London.
The Outnumbered star explained to Laura Smyth, host of Your Mum, who sits down with celebrity guests to talk about their mothers, how the cat would be on a lead attached to a washing line – some 36ft long. One can only imagine the reaction of people also climbing the Yorkshire peak back in the 1970s or 80s.

"We climbed lots of the peaks in Yorkshire, it went up Penyghent," he said.
"It did all sorts of things like that, they just thought this cat cannot, must not, be left on its own and they didn't even think 'we'll leave the cat in the caravan for the day.'"
