Pupils are taking the lead in a new road safety campaign.

Children from three primary schools along Scotchman Road in Bradford have launched the Scotchman Road Traffic Safety Programme, a community-focused initiative designed to promote safer journeys for all.

The project has seen the appointment of Junior Road Safety Officers (JRSOs), who will help raise awareness and address traffic concerns in the area.

Sarah Johnson, co-headteacher at Margaret McMillan Primary School, said: "Traffic and parking near our school can often be dangerous for pupils and their families due to speeding and inconsiderate parking.

"Recognising that we all shared the same concerns, the headteachers from the three primary schools on Scotchman Road decided to join forces.

"Thanks to the support of Bradford Council’s Road Safety Team, we now have a dedicated group of trained pupils ready to champion road safety and encourage motorists to drive with greater care."

The JRSOs—part of the newly formed "Team Action Patrol"—will begin their first official patrol on Scotchman Road on November 11 at 3pm.

The programme is a collaboration between Margaret McMillan Primary School, Carlton Mills Primary School, and St Cuthbert & The First Martyrs' Catholic Primary School.

It aims to improve safety for children, families, and the wider community.
