A BMW and an Audi collided before one of the cars smashed into a house just before 9am.

The Audi driver, a woman in her 60s, suffered serious injuries and was airlifted to James Cook University Hospital, where she remains today (October 14).

The junction has been the site of several serious incidents in recent years.

In February 2023, a car ploughed through the wall of the same house, leaving a gaping hole and destroying the family’s dining room.

The crash prompted calls for improved safety measures, with Durham County Council later introducing stop signs, new road markings, high-friction surfacing, and more.
