An affordable Darlington fashion shop has closed its doors just a year after opening in the town centre.

Lime, which opened inside the Cornmill Shopping Centre in October last year, has ceased trading from its unit in the centre.

Pictures taken inside the Cornmill today (October 13) show the shutters down, windows empty and lights switched off at the store.

The exact date the shop closed has not been confirmed.

Lime first welcomed shoppers to its 3,500 sq ft store on October 8, 2025, stocking fashion and accessories including bags, coats and shoes.

The business, which was founded in Cheshire by the Capper family 45 years ago, had grown from a market stall before expanding to have shops including its Darlington branch.

At the time of the opening, a Lime spokesperson said the business had repeatedly been told it should come to Darlington.

They said: “We kept being told that we needed to open in Darlington, so we came up. I know that Darlington is a decent town, and it seems better than it's ever been before.

“I think it is fantastic what has been done. There were a couple of units in the Cornmill, and we decided to take one.

“Every time I've been out in Darlington, there are people around. We opened today, and we're hoping to give people good value for money.
