Husband's heartfelt tribute to former Barnard Castle dentist after sad death aged 59

A heartbroken husband has paid tribute to his wife of 27 years, describing her as a kind, caring woman who spent her life helping others.

Mandy Rose, who owned Castle Dental in Barnard Castle for more than two decades, died on October 4 after battling a number of illnesses.

Her husband, Malcolm Rose, said the 59-year-old was a kind and caring woman who was always there for others.

"She was very kind," he said.

"She would always stop to help. She was always available.

"She would always tell me, 'No, we need to stop and help and see what we can do.'

"She was very talkative and supportive."

Even in her final weeks in hospital, Mandy put others before herself. Malcolm said nurses often asked Mandy to talk to patients who were struggling.

He said: "When she was in the hospital, the nurse asked her to speak to some of the other patients who were having a hard time and she helped them out quite a lot.

"People she's met in the hospital have phoned me and that's helped me a lot.

"She was always helping others."

The couple met in 1998 and married the following year, before going on to have a son, Max, 26,

"We met through a golfing partner I used to play with who was a nurse for Mandy when she first became a dentist.

"Mandy had known about me for four or five years before we met. And then we met, and she chose me."

Mandy took over the Castle Dental practice on Galgate in 2002.

She retired in 2023, and celebrated her 59th birthday on August 30, just weeks before she died.

Castle Dental announced her death in a post on Facebook, saying: "It is with great sadness that we share the news that Mandy Rose passed away peacefully on October 4, 2026.

"Mandy owned the practice from 2002 until her retirement in 2023, dedicating over 20 years of her life to the practice.
