The Darlington Lions Club raised a record amount and donated thousands of pounds to good causes across the town, including vital support for young people’s mental health.
It raised nearly £50,000 in 12 months, supporting more than 30 charities, community groups, sports clubs and individuals.
Ann Gent, president of Darlington Lions, said: "We are very grateful to everyone who donates books, as well as to all our customers who help us raise funds for all the good causes we support.

"Our successful fundraising means that we can continue our support of The Listening Post, which makes a real difference to the lives of many young people in Darlington schools and colleges."
The Listening Post, a youth mental health charity, received £5,000—its third donation from the Lions in three years.
The Listening Post provides free, confidential listening and mentoring to more than 270 students each year in Darlington’s schools and colleges.
It works in eight secondary schools, five primary schools, a sixth-form college and a pupil referral unit, while also offering an out-of-hours service.
Mel Stand from The Listening Post said: "We very much appreciate Darlington Lions’ support.
"This latest donation will make a massive difference to our work, and will help us deliver hundreds of listening sessions with children and young people across Darlington during this academic year, helping them on their journey into adulthood."
Other major donations funded a Tees Valley YMCA youth club in Red Hall, supported St Teresa’s Hospice and helped Heel & Toe support children with cerebral palsy and other physical disabilities.
The money also paid for free prostate cancer tests for 180 men, Christmas food parcels and winter warm packs for vulnerable residents.
The Lions’ second-hand bookshop in Darlington town centre has been its main source of income for 40 years.
Ninety-five per cent of the books cost £1 each or three for £2, attracting hundreds of customers every week.
Darlington Lions is part of Lions International, the world’s largest service club organisation.
