A community bonfire said to have been prepared for an upcoming annual event in a North Yorkshire park has been deliberately set alight.

The county's fire and rescue service said crews from Whitby were called to Eastside in the town at 7pm last night (Tuesday, October 13).

A service spokesperson said it believed preparations had been made for Bonfire Night on November 5 and confirmed the fire was extinguished.
