A seniors’ golf competition in Scarborough has raised hundreds of pounds for hospice care.

The event, held at South Cliff Golf Club, brought in £400 for Saint Catherine’s Hospice.

Seventy-two players took part in the annual Seniors Open Competition, with participants travelling from Guisborough, Chesterfield, York and Rotherham to take part.

Stuart Coney, seniors’ captain, said: "It was an extremely successful day, with people already asking to book for next year."

The winning team was from Saltburn, and the event included a sweepstake in support of the hospice.

Ron Lee, seniors’ vice-captain, explained that Saint Catherine’s was chosen as the beneficiary because a club member’s wife had received care there.

Mr Coney said: "It’s great to be able to support something local."

Susan Stephenson, fundraising operations coordinator at Saint Catherine’s, added: "We would like to thank Stuart, Ron and all the players on the day for their amazing support and generosity."
