The Archbishop of York is set to begin an overseas visit to Australia and Hong Kong.

The Most Reverend Stephen Cottrell will travel from October 16 to November 2 to strengthen ties with Anglican churches, schools and communities in the region.

The visit will also explore opportunities for partnership and shared ministry.

In Perth, he will visit schools and clergy, and join discussions on Christian leadership and mission.

Kay Goldsworthy, Archbishop of Perth, said: "We are delighted to welcome the Archbishop of York and Mrs Cottrell to Perth and look forward to sharing with him in the life and mission of the Church here.

"Mission is at the heart of who we are as Christians: sharing the good news of Christ, offering hope and restoration, and seeking to be a presence of God’s love in our communities."

Archbishop Cottrell will then travel to Hong Kong for his first visit to the Anglican Province.

He will meet with staff at Holy Trinity Cathedral and visit schools and social-service ministries.

Archbishop Cottrell said: "Partnerships between Anglican churches across the world remind us that, although our contexts may be very different, we are part of one family in Christ.

"This visit is an opportunity to listen, learn and share."
