A POPULAR author is returning to a North Yorkshire market town this weekend to entertain audiences with his trademark wit and wry humour.

After appearing at Malton Roman Festival earlier this year, Kemps Bookstore are delighted to welcome Terry Deary to the Milton Rooms to talk about his new book A History of the World in Ten Wars.

Discussing a customary aspect of global history, he questions whether wars achieve anything and if we learn from them, in the same humorous manner he is renowned for.

Rising to prominence as the author of the acclaimed Horrible Histories series, which made him the best-selling children’s non-fiction writer since records began, Terry Deary has turned his attention to adult fiction and non-fiction.

A History of Britain in Ten Enemies became a #1 Sunday Times best-seller with over 100,000 copies sold, adding to his impressive total of selling 38 million books in forty-five languages.

Through his trademark wit and wry humour, Deary explores and challenges pivotal conflicts that shaped the world in his latest work, uncovering surprising truths, strange characters, and forgotten stories that they didn’t teach at school. Discover why the ancient Greeks finally banded together after centuries of internal conflict, the accidental invention of teabags, and why the World Wars were actually one prolonged war with a break for half-time.

It promises to be an engaging topical conversation, perfect for those interested in history and politics, as well as those who grew up with the much-loved Horrible Histories series.

Liz Kemp, owner of Kemps in Malton, said: "We’re absolutely delighted to be welcoming Terry Deary to Malton - it’s a real coup for the town and a wonderful opportunity to hear from one of Britain’s best-known and best-loved authors right here on our doorstep. Terry is a brilliant storyteller with a wonderfully witty take on history, and we’re really proud to be bringing an author of his calibre to the Milton Rooms for what promises to be a hugely entertaining afternoon for our local community."

Terry Deary will be in conversation at The Milton Rooms on Sunday, October 18,for an entertaining yet thought-provoking event, and will sign copies of his books, with a selection of titles available to purchase.

The event commences at 2:30 pm. Tickets are £10 per person or £28 for a ticket and a book. Book in-store or online via kempsgeneralstore.co.uk/pages/events
