Muddy Boots Nursery in Wilberfoss is celebrating after achieving Strong Standard gradings across all six areas in its latest Ofsted inspection.
The nature-led nursery has been praised for its care, supportive team and commitment – and it’s welcoming families for January 2027.
The Ofsted success has been “fantastic news” for the team.

“It’s a lovely recognition of the care, dedication and hard work that goes into making Muddy Boots a special place for children and their families,” said manager Nicola Duckworth.
“At Muddy Boots, we believe childhood should be full of curiosity, discovery and opportunities to explore the world around us.
“Our nature-led approach encourages children to learn through play, follow their interests and grow in confidence at their own pace.”

The Ofsted inspector noted in the report: “Children benefit from secure relationships with staff and extremely well-planned transition arrangements… As a result, children settle quickly and develop into confident, emotionally secure learners within the nursery and beyond.”
The report also praised the positive, respectful atmosphere within the nursery, as well as the way leaders put children at the heart of their decisions.
“For the Muddy Boots team, these comments mean a great deal,” continued Nicola. “Building relationships with children and families is at the heart of what we do, and we know how important it is for parents to feel confident and reassured when choosing childcare for their little ones.
“From those first sometimes-wobbly goodbyes to the excitement of getting ready for school, we want every child to feel safe, supported and ready to take on their next adventure.”
As well as Wilberfoss, Muddy Boots also have nurseries in Stamford Bridge, Poppleton and Acomb.
Muddy Boots offer no-obligation showrounds, giving you the chance to look around, meet the team, ask questions and get a feel for nursery life before making any decisions.
Government-funded childcare and free childcare placements may also be available for eligible families, subject to the relevant eligibility criteria and funding arrangements. The team can help you understand the options and find out what support may be available to you.
The next intake is January 2027.
“A huge well done to our wonderful Wilberfoss team for this fantastic Ofsted result, and a heartfelt thank you to all our families for their continued support.
“We’re incredibly proud of what we do, and we can’t wait to welcome more little explorers to Muddy Boots.”
