York feels like a natural fit for the home of a new branch of a growing Australia-inspired café chain, its founder has said.
Claudio Ribeiro, founder of Federal, which is set to open a new café in Coney Street, said they were excited to bring something new to York.
He added the new venue would offer people in York the amazing brunches, top-quality speciality coffee and five-star service they had come to expect from Federal.

It comes after City of York Council approved plans to install hanging and facia signs featuring the café’s branding on 5 Coney Street.
The new venue is set to have seating for up to 100 people and is expected to open later this autumn.
Investors Foresight Group have backed the national roll-out of the café, which began in Manchester in 2014, with £3m.
The York café will be the company’s fifth to open since it was established.
The plans, lodged in August, followed a bid in July to licence the empty unit which previously housed Lush.
A separate but related planning application to convert the inside of the unit to house the café is awaiting a council ruling.
Plans for the signs approved by the council are also set to see the outside of the Grade II-listed building painted black in line with Federal’s colour scheme.

The facia and hanging sign would be black with yellow lettering.
The company stated the Coney Street venue would combine Federal’s familiar warm and relaxed style with the Grade II-listed building’s historic character.
Federal founder Mr Ribeiro said York’s strong independent spirit, huge student community, thriving food and drinks scene and visitor economy were all reasons to open a venue in the city.

The founder said: “York feels like a natural fit for Federal.
“We’re incredibly lucky to have found a fantastic location and we’re excited to create something that feels unmistakably Federal while celebrating the history and character of the building.
“Our people are fundamental to the energy and personality of our cafés, and we’re looking forward to building a brilliant team in York.”
