Two people have been jailed for more than 24 years after a violent Leeds crime spree that left one victim with life-changing injuries.

Two people have been jailed after a violent crime spree that left victims seriously injured and traumatised.

Lee Wakefield, aged 41, of Wepener Mount, Harehills, Leeds, was jailed for 13 years and nine months after admitting aggravated burglary, two counts of grievous bodily harm and actual bodily harm.

Jessica Stewart, aged 28, of Simmons Court, Cross Green, Leeds, was jailed for 10 years and nine months.

Both were sentenced at Leeds Crown Court on Tuesday, October 13, following offences committed over two days in February.

Elderly man robbed at apparent gunpoint

On February 28, Stewart robbed an elderly man in Cross Green after threatening him with what appeared to be a handgun and ordering him to hand over money.

The vulnerable victim handed over £200. He was so shaken that he left the address soon after the robbery.

Stewart then returned to the property, broke in and caused significant damage.

Later that day, Wakefield and Stewart carried out an aggravated burglary at an address in Ascot Terrace, Richmond Hill.

Once inside, they demanded items from the victims.

Victim suffered life-changing injuries in burglary

One victim suffered life-changing injuries, including a broken arm, fractured leg and fractured ribs. Another required hospital treatment after suffering a head injury.

Early the following morning, Stewart was involved in an attempted robbery in Harehills.

A woman walking with her adult daughter and two young children was threatened with what appeared to be a handgun and ordered to hand over money.

Detectives from the Leeds District Crime Team linked the pair to the offences through CCTV, forensic evidence and witness accounts.

Police condemn 'extreme violence and intimidation'

Detective Sergeant Robert Kennerley, of the Leeds District Crime Team, said: "Wakefield and Stewart went on the rampage over a relatively short period of time. Between them, they caused serious physical injuries to their victims and left them traumatised. The incidents were marked by extreme violence and intimidation."

Stewart also admitted possession of an imitation firearm with intent to cause fear of violence, possession of an offensive weapon, burglary with intent to steal and attempted robbery.

Wakefield admitted the offences brought before the court.

The case involved offences in Cross Green, Richmond Hill and Harehills, all within the Leeds area.

Police said the investigation used evidence gathered from several sources to identify both defendants.
