Leeds Bradford Airport strike - Praise for 'constructive approach' taken

Leeds Bradford Airport (LBA) has confirmed it will operate as normal this weekend after a planned air traffic control strike was suspended.

The airport said the decision provides reassurance for thousands of passengers due to travel over the coming days.

It welcomed the move as positive news for customers, airline partners and the wider Yorkshire region.

Members of the Unite union had been due to walk out from Friday, October 16, to Sunday, October 18, as part of an ongoing pay dispute.

However, the industrial action has now been put on hold while workers vote on the latest offer.

In a statement, LBA said it appreciated the "constructive approach" taken by all parties involved in reaching the agreement to suspend the industrial action.

Ballot process remains ongoing

While the planned strike has been called off, the airport said a ballot involving some frontline colleagues is still ongoing.

LBA said it remains hopeful that a positive outcome can be reached and that an agreement can be found that works for everyone involved.

The airport added that discussions are continuing as efforts are made to resolve the dispute.

Contingency plans remain in place

Despite the suspension of the strike, LBA said it has a robust contingency plan in place and would continue preparations to minimise disruption in the event of any future industrial action.

The airport stressed that operations this weekend will continue as normal, with its focus remaining on providing a smooth and reliable experience for passengers while maintaining safe and efficient services.
