A young farmer who appeared on BBC's Countryfile has died at the age of 35.

Frank Carr, from Lee Gate Farm in Malhamdale, North Yorkshire, was a fourth-generation farmer who featured on the programme alongside presenter Adam Henson.

He died on September 25, with the news confirmed by Farmers Guardian.

Mr Carr managed more than 2,000 acres of land in the Yorkshire Dales National Park with his family.

Their farm included around 250 breeding cows and 1,300 breeding ewes, as well as both store and finished cattle.

During his appearance on Countryfile, he spoke openly about his hopes for the future of the family business.

He said: "In farming, every day is an opportunity to learn.

"Farming is a very rewarding profession, although it can be very challenging mentally; it can also be very rewarding, so that's another reason why I love what I do."

He also discussed the financial realities facing hill farmers.

He said: "At the end of the day, farming is a business, so the financial aspect is always an issue.

"There’s no real clarity on the future, especially for hill farms."

Mr Carr was described as a "true friend" of Farmers Guardian, having contributed to the publication on numerous occasions and taken part in its Next Generation Hill Farmers series.

He also served as a #Farm24 campaign ambassador, helping to highlight the people behind food production and the realities of modern farming.

Katie Jones, editor of Farmers Guardian, said: "For those who met Frank through his farming, his work with the industry or his appearances in the farming media, he will be remembered not only as a talented young farmer but as someone who represented the very best of the next generation – committed to his family, his livestock, his land and the future of British farming.

"He was a true friend of FG.

"His loss, at just 35, is immeasurably sad."

The publication said Mr Carr spoke with pride about his farm’s heritage and his determination to carry it forward.

The farming community and viewers of Countryfile have paid tribute to Mr Carr, remembering him as a passionate advocate for the industry and an inspiration to others.

Countryfile, which has aired for decades on the BBC, is presented by Adam Henson and John Craven, who was born in Leeds and began his career in Harrogate.
