Yorkshire Wildlife Park will remain closed for a fourth day following the death of a man who was attacked by a tiger after entering an enclosure at the attraction.
Emergency services were called to the park, near Doncaster, shortly after 1.30pm on Saturday, October 10, following reports that a visitor had entered the tiger enclosure.
The man, who police said had been visiting the park alone, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Council launches investigation
A health and safety investigation has now been launched by City of Doncaster Council, which is responsible for licensing the wildlife park.
Dan Swaine, executive director of place at the council, confirmed the authority was carrying out enquiries into the incident.
He said the council was working with a number of agencies, including police and health bodies, while also supporting the wildlife park in its response.
The authority said it would not be commenting further on the individual involved or the ongoing investigation.
Park remains closed
Visitors were informed via the park's website that it would remain closed on Tuesday as investigations continued.
The closure means the attraction has now shut its gates for four consecutive days following the tragedy.
No further details about the circumstances leading up to the incident have been released.
Tiger will not be euthanised
Following widespread concern on social media, the wildlife park has also confirmed that Altai, the Amur tiger involved in the incident, will not be put down.
In an earlier statement, park officials said they had received inquiries from "many, many people" about the animal's welfare.
They confirmed the tiger is "safe and well" and will continue to be cared for at the park.
Questions remain
Investigators are continuing to establish exactly how the incident occurred and how the man came to enter the enclosure.
While the focus remains on the health and safety investigation, the incident has prompted widespread discussion about safety procedures at wildlife attractions and the circumstances surrounding the man's death.
Further updates are expected as the investigation progresses.
