Longest-serving landlords in pub's history call it a day after 22 years in charge

Long serving pub landlords are calling it a day and are inviting all their regulars to join them for a farewell drink.

Owen and Leigh Pugh have clocked up an impressive 22 and a half years at The Cavendish Arms in Embsay, near Skipton.

It means they have broken a record by spending longer at 'The Cav' than any other landlord in the pub's history.

Their impressive stint at the pub also makes them the longest serving landlords in Craven - an area stretching from Skipton across the landscapes of a significant chunk of the Yorkshire Dales.

The 'Cav' is a character-filler village pub with a cosy snug, a traditional bar, a comfortable lounge, a games room and a dining room with garden views.

In the summer, the pub staged its last annual classic car show.

First held in 2019 as a charity fundraiser in memory of the landlady's sister, Pat, the event has raised a total of £4,000 for Cancer Research UK.

The winning car, chosen by judge Chris Fawcett, was a 1928 bullnose Morris, owned by Mike Naylor.

To bid villagers and all customers a fond farewell, Owen and Leigh will be having drinks and canapes on Sunday, October 18, from 5pm.

Later this month, they will be handing over to Dan and Debs Ambler, who previously ran The Craven in Skipton and before that, a pub in Otley.
