For more than 80 years, Three Squares Café has been part of daily life in Darlington town centre.
The Skinnergate café has served generations of customers full English breakfasts, bacon sandwiches and mugs of tea.
Now, despite opening fewer hours than in previous years, the family-run business is enjoying some of the strongest trade in its long history.
A recent message shared on the café's social media pages thanked customers for their support after Three Squares recorded its best-ever day and week for takings.
The milestone is particularly striking given the pressures facing independent high street businesses across the country, from rising costs and changing shopping habits to growing competition from larger chains.
For Louise, who helps run the café alongside her father-in-law, the figures were a powerful reminder of the support the business continues to receive from the local community.
In a message to customers, she wrote: "Good afternoon, you lovely lot... just wanted to jump on and say a massive thank you.
"For the past 21 months, our little café has been completely family-run for the first time.
"As many of you know, but for the sake of new followers, myself and my father-in-law keep the good ship afloat Tuesday to Friday and get an extra pair of hands on a Saturday.
"People will often ask me what's your busiest day. It's like asking how long a piece of string is; you can never call it."
She added: "This week just gone was exceptionally busy, so much so that we beat previous records for day and weekly takings.
"Considering we open less hours than we used to, it's crazy.
"So again, thank you. There aren't many of us old independents left in Darlington, and we are forever thankful for keeping us going."
The café recently celebrated its 80th anniversary, cementing its place among Darlington's oldest surviving cafés, while generations of families have eaten there, making it a familiar part of town-centre life.
Three Squares remains proudly old-fashioned. Customers come for hearty breakfasts and café classics, then return for familiarity, conversation and community.

Step inside on a busy morning, and you will find workers grabbing breakfast before a shift, shoppers pausing for a cup of tea and regulars exchanging jokes with staff who know them by name.
While trendy coffee shops and national chains have transformed many town centres, Three Squares has remained true to the formula that has sustained it for generations.
Its recent success suggests that, even in a changing high street landscape, there is still strong demand for independent businesses that have become woven into the fabric of their communities.
