An award-winning restaurant is moving into the former home of Frankie and Benny’s.
Popular Indian street food venue, My Delhi, will take over the High Street West site as part of the Sunniside Social development in Sunderland.
The site has been vacant since 2019 and will become part of a wider scheme to rebrand and revitalise the leisure block next to the Omniplex cinema.
Work on the building is set to begin soon, with My Delhi aiming to open there in early 2027.
The restaurant has won multiple awards, and its team in Newcastle recently celebrated a major national victory.
At the prestigious Asian Restaurant & Takeaway awards (ARTA) this week in London, often described as the Oscars of the British Asian restaurant industry, My Delhi Newcastle was named Best Restaurant in the North East, as well as receiving the Champions of Champions award.

The team reflected on their journey since opening their first site seven years ago.
They said: "Seven years ago, we opened our first restaurant in Newcastle with a dream to do things differently.
"To bring the energy, excitement and food culture of Delhi to life and create an Indian dining experience unlike anything else.
"We've never stopped pushing ourselves since.
"Every dish, every detail, every guest experience."

"This is our biggest achievement yet, and we couldn't be prouder of our incredible teams, our partners, our suppliers and everyone who's been part of our journey.

My Delhi’s current Borough Road site will remain open throughout Christmas and into the new year.
