Paedophile who abused teen decades ago dies in North East jail months into sentence

A sex offender jailed for 19 years for abusing a child has died in HMP Holme House prison.

A sex offender jailed for 19 years for abusing a child has died in prison just months after he was sentenced.

Kevin Low, 62, died at HMP Holme House in Stockton on September 23.

The circumstances of his death are not yet known.

Low was jailed for 19 years at Newcastle Crown Court on Monday, June 15, after being convicted of eight offences.

He committed the offences in Bradford between 1997 and 2003, when the victim was a teenager.

The Prison and Probation Ombudsman (PPO) will now investigate the circumstances surrounding his death.

A Prison Service spokesperson said: “As with all deaths in custody the PPO will investigate, and it would be inappropriate to comment further until this has concluded.”

Low, formerly of Wealdhere Street, Bradford, was placed on the sex offenders’ register for life and given a lifetime restraining order upon sentencing.

Detective Constable Stuart Barrows, the investigating officer of West Yorkshire Police, said at the time: “I would like to praise the victim for the courage and bravery she has shown throughout.
