JD has announced the opening date of its new Middlesbrough town centre store.

The fashion firm is moving from the Cleveland Centre to a new town centre site at the Hillstreet Shopping Centre on Saturday (October 17).

The firm has long been expected to relocate after floor plans listed the brand earlier this year, describing it as an "anchor retailer” of the complex.

New hoardings were erected for the shop, which was previously empty, in August, teasing that a “bigger and better JD is coming soon”.

And now, JD has confirmed that it will be closing its store at the Cleveland Centre on the same day it opens its new location.

Spanning more than 6,531 sq ft, the new modern retail space will offer shoppers a “spacious and contemporary shopping experience with access to their favourite brands”.

It will feature major brands including Nike, adidas, New Balance, The North Face, On Running and Montirex.

To celebrate the launch, customers are encouraged to visit during opening weekend, where they can explore the new space and take part in exclusive launch activities.

Shoppers who make a purchase over the weekend and sign up to JD Status will have the chance to try their luck at JD’s Spin to Win, with prizes and JD cash up for grabs.

The news comes just months after Boots decided to relocate from its Cleveland Centre store to Hillstreet, having been closed at its former home for several months.

The firm said the new location, which opened in February, would provide an "elevated shopping experience and an extended range of health, wellness and beauty essentials".

Discount retailer B&M also recently returned to Middlesbrough town centre in the form of a new store at the Hillstreet Centre in February.

JD Sports continues to operate a number of other sites in the North East including at the Teesside Park, Cleveland Retail Park, and the Cornmill Shopping Centre in Darlington.
