A "much-loved" County Durham dad known locally as a "brilliant footballer" took his own life, an inquest heard.
Glenn Hendrix, 38, a roofer from Newton Aycliffe, was discovered in a wooded area near his home on September 8.
An inquest into his death was opened at Miners Hall in Durham on Monday (October 12).
Coroner's officer Emily Bourne told the short hearing Mr Hendrix was found by friends.
A post-mortem examination was carried out by Dr Nigel Cooper at Newcastle Freeman Hospital Mortuary on September 16.
Glenn was known locally as a "brilliant footballer and scorer" who played at Newton Aycliffe Sports Club.
A GoFundMe drive was previously launched by his sister-in-law Katie to raise funds towards funeral costs.
The fundraiser says: “As many of you know, we have sadly lost our much-loved Glenn.
“There are no words that can truly describe how much he will be missed by his family, friends and everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.
“The family are taking care of Glen’s funeral costs, but I would love to raise a little extra in his memory to create something special and lasting for his family to have.
“We would love to be able to put towards a memorial bench or another special memorial piece for Glenn, somewhere his family can go, sit, talk to him, remember him and feel close to him. Somewhere that keeps his memory alive for years to come.”
It added: “The funds will be going straight to his mum Julie.
“If anyone would like to make a donation, no matter how big or small, it would mean so much to Glenns family. Every penny will go towards creating a beautiful and lasting tribute in his memory.
“If you’re unable to donate, simply sharing this post would mean just as much.
“Forever loved, forever missed and never forgotten. Rest peacefully, Glen. You will always have a place in our hearts.”
