Parents across North Yorkshire are being urged to apply now for primary school places for September 2027.
Children born between September 1, 2022, and August 31, 2023, can start school in 2027, but applications must be made by January 15, 2027.
Councillor Annabel Wilkinson, North Yorkshire Council’s executive member for education, learning and skills, said: "We know that choosing the correct primary school for families is important, which is why we have included lots of information about the application process and details about the county’s schools on our website.
"For a child to be allocated a school place it is crucial that you make an application to the local authority where you live and the deadline to apply is January 15, 2027.
"If parents or carers apply after the deadline, this could affect the allocation of your child’s school place.
"Please remember, you still have to apply for a school place if your child is attending a nursery or has a sibling within the primary school you want them to go to."
Earlier this year, 96 per cent of North Yorkshire families got their first-choice primary school, up from 95 per cent the year before.
Parents can list up to five schools in order of preference.
The council is also urging families to check its home-to-school travel policy before choosing schools.
Parents are reminded that the catchment school for admissions may not be the nearest suitable school for travel purposes."

School places will be announced on National Offer Day, April 16, 2027.
The council website has details of transport eligibility and a tool to find the nearest school.
