A Clydebank pub has denied claims that it is closing down after hackers posted a false message on its social media page.

The Glenhead Tavern in Duntocher reassured customers after a message appeared online on the evening of Monday, October 12, stating it would shut with "immediate effect."

The post read: "We simply cannot continue to make losses on a daily basis. We hope you are able to find somewhere else to hold your function.

"The keys will be handed back to the brewery with immediate effect."

A second message later clarified the pub's Facebook page had been hacked and confirmed it was not closing.

The pub said: "It has been brought to our attention by our customers that our social media has been hacked. The Glenhead Tavern will not be closing.

"We are in the process of changing all our passwords. We apologise if the post caused anyone any alarm."

The Clydebank Post has confirmed this with the business.

Relieved customers welcomed the update, with one commenting: "Thank God for that."

Another said: "I thought there was something strange about the post with it being so blunt, that's good news it's false."

A third commentor added: "So it’s not true I don’t need to look for somewhere else for my function next week."
