A 21-year-old man has been charged with "robbery and possession of a bladed article in a public place" following an incident in York.

North Yorkshire Police said in a statement on Sunday, October 11 that an arrest "followed a report of an altercation involving three men during which a bladed weapon was also seen" in Leeman Road, near the National Railway Museum, on the afternoon of the same day.

Two men were taken to hospital with injuries believed to be non-threatening, police said on Sunday.

A man was arrested in Hull later on Sunday afternoon by North Yorkshire Police officers working in conjunction with Humberside Police.

In a statement this morning (Tuesday), a force spokesperson said: "The 21-year-old man arrested at Hull Railway Station has now been charged with robbery and possession of a bladed article in a public place.

"He has been remanded in custody and is due to appear before magistrates today."

The incident in Leeman Road at the weekend prompted a large police response, with armed officers, dog units, and teams from both North Yorkshire and Humberside Police deployed to the scene.

Park Street, which runs alongside the museum, was cordoned off on Sunday.

The incident led to a significant police presence in York city centre.

The investigation is ongoing, and officers are continuing to appeal for information from the public.
