Extreme heat and climate change will take centre stage at a public meeting this week in York.

The event will be held on Wednesday, October 14, from 7pm to 9pm at The Show Space at Spark in Piccadilly.

Part of the York Environment Festival, the meeting aims to explore the effects of rising temperatures and discuss how York can adapt to a warmer future.

Speakers include Jan Selby, Professor of International Relations and Climate Change at the University of Leeds, and York social worker Jenny Latchford.

Professor Selby said: "Climate change is making the kind of weather we experienced this summer more frequent and more extreme.

"The impacts of extreme heat are felt not only with respect to living and working conditions but also in schools, on health and emergency services, with respect to our water supplies and on food, farming and the whole natural world."

Presentations will be followed by a Q&A and open discussion.
