A 20-YEAR-OLD man has been arrested after an e-bike failed to stop for police and was pursued through a North Yorkshire town.

North Yorkshire Police says a 20-year-old man has been arrested after an e-bike failed to stop for police and was chased through Harrogate.

The incident happened at around 10.15pm yesterday (Sunday, October 11) when officers on patrol spotted an e-bike on York Place, which was seen turning onto the Empress roundabout and then onto Knaresborough Road.

A spokesperson for the force said: "Blue lights were activated and the e-bike fails to stop again - as the rider travels down Granby Road, they join the footpath and narrowly miss a pedestrian before leaving the path travelling off road on The Stray, adjacent to Skipton Road.

"Officers continue to pursue the bike off road and it turns right onto Claro Road and whilst turning onto Ainsty Road, the rider attempts to mount the curb but in doing so loses control of the bike and comes off with no injuries sustained."

The rider, a 20-year-old man from the local area, was arrested on suspicion of failing to stop, dangerous driving, and driving without insurance.

After a search, the man was found to be carrying weed and was arrested for possession of cannabis.

He remains in custody whilst the investigation continues.
