A York nightclub has closed after many years entertaining late-night revellers – but it will reopen soon with a whole new brand.
Popworld York, on George Hudson Street, shut at the weekend after more than a decade of trading.
It is now preparing to reopen under a brand-new name, Replay York.

The city-centre nightclub will temporarily close for two weeks while refurbishment works take place, before having a grand opening weekend starting on Thursday 29 October.
The new management team has reassured customers that the nightclub is very much a going concern.
While the name above the door will be changing, customers can expect Replay York to offer a very similar experience to Popworld.
The venue will continue to focus on feel-good party music, nostalgic throwback anthems, singalong favourites and today’s biggest hits.
And they’re keeping the famous revolving dancefloor!
‘Really excited’
The refurbishment aims to focus on improving the overall nightclub experience.
The venue will operate under new management – led by hospitality operator Connor Heywood, who has more than a decade of experience running bars and nightclubs.
“We want to reassure everyone that Popworld isn’t disappearing,” said Connor. “We’re simply giving it a fresh new look and a new name.

“Replay will be very similar to what people already know and love about Popworld. We’re keeping the fun atmosphere, the music and the party experience, but bringing everything up to date.
“We know how popular Popworld has been over the years, and we don’t want to lose what makes the venue special. Our aim is to build on that and make it even better.
“We’re really excited about the plans and can’t wait to welcome everyone back at the end of October.”
The two-week refurbishment will include new signage and exterior branding, refreshed bars and interiors, new decor, upgraded lighting and entertainment, updated drinks menus, and refreshed programme of weekly events and themed club nights.
Replay York is set to officially launch on Thursday 29 October with an opening weekend of celebrations.
