Man seriously injured after falling from second-floor window at York Hospital

An investigation is underway after a man fell from a second floor window at York Hospital.

The man suffered serious injuries in the fall. YorkMix understands he has been left in a coma.

There was a huge police response to the incident on Saturday (10 October) at 5.36pm.

Officers from the force were accompanying the man at the time and so the force has referred itself to the police watchdog.

A North Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: “At 5.36pm on Saturday evening, we were made aware that a man had fallen from a second-floor window at York Hospital.

“The man sustained serious injuries and has since received further treatment in hospital.

“A full investigation is underway to establish the circumstances prior to the incident.

“As police officers were present at the hospital at the time of the incident and there had been previous police contact with the individual, North Yorkshire Police has made a mandatory referral to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC).”

The York and Scarborough Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust runs York Hospital.

We have asked them about the incident and will update this story when they respond.
