A Riot Women star has teased plans for a second season of the hit Sally Wainwright BBC drama.

The show, written by Huddersfield-born Wainwright and filmed in Hebden Bridge, follows a group of women who form a punk band later in life.

The BBC has confirmed the series will return for a second season, although a release date has not been announced.

Speaking to Hello! magazine, Amelia Bullmore, who plays guitarist Yvonne, said: "I have continued practising the guitar – number one because I loved it, number two because having learned something from scratch it seemed a sinful waste to drop it, and number three because I hoped we would need it again."

Ms Bullmore said: "I fear I can't say anything at all.

"We don't start until February, so in the autumn we'll start to get the songs through and get our homework for the music, and then we'll be back in Hebden."

The BBC said the new episodes will explore "what comes next for the Riot Women following the dramatic turn of events in series one's final episode."

The cast also includes Joanna Scanlan, Rosalie Craig, Lorraine Ashbourne, and Tamsin Greig.

Ms Wainwright welcomed the renewal, saying: "Oh, this is where the fun really starts.

"We've all been so deeply moved by the huge, overwhelming, joyous, emotional response to series one, and now we're able to take the Riot Women extravaganza onto the next level.

"We hope you'll all join us on the series two rollercoaster."

Riot Women originally aired on BBC One and remains available to stream on BBC iPlayer.
