Prettiest Yorkshire Dales village with 'stunning' waterfall and quaint tea room

Aysgarth has been named one of the prettiest places to live thanks to its "absolutely stunning" waterfall and cute tea room.

A village found in the Yorkshire Dales with a "stunning waterfall" has been named one of the prettiest places to live in Britain.

Estate and Letting Agents, Ashton & Co, released a list of the top 20 prettiest places to live with the village of Aysgarth taking the fifth place.

The list featured a range of “charming villages, gorgeous market towns, and picturesque cities” across Britain.

The village is best known for Aysgarth Falls, a waterfall that is popular with hikers taking a walk around the area.

What is so great about Aysgarth?

The village is very small, but it has its own tea room called Hamilton’s that serves homemade desserts and scones as well as light lunches and breakfasts.

From the tea room, you can see the village green where the village stocks still stand.

There is a free walking app that has been created by the Yorkshire Dales National Park that you can follow to see the Aysgarth Falls.

The waterfall is so “spectacular” that it has been added to a stamp by the Royal Mail.

Aysgarth Falls has a visitor centre, car park, and a café where you can sit and have a meal and fresh cake or a takeaway drink to enjoy on your walk.

After visiting the waterfall, you can take a look around the Aysgarth Edwardian Rock Garden, which is described as being one of the “most unusual Listed Buildings in the Yorkshire Dales”.

The garden was commissioned by Frank Sayer-Graham, who owned the cottage opposite and features large blocks of limestone to create a “walk-through grotto”.

The estate and letting agents said: “Located in famous Wensleydale, Aysgarth is home to a number of stunning waterfalls.

“It was used as the filming location for Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, starring Kevin Costner, and the village is also known for its gorgeous old mill.”
