Volodymyr Zelensky has demanded that US president Donald Trump pressure Russia to honour the ceasefire after alleging that Moscow's overnight attack targeted Ukrainian energy infrastructure.
"Americans must make sure Russians respect the energy ceasefire," he said. “We need American pressure on Russia, not sanctions relief so we can achieve an energy ceasefire," Zelensky said.
Zelensky said such strikes continued hours after Trump announced that Russia had agreed to a limited ceasefire on energy targets. The Kremlin has yet to confirm or deny those claims.
Power outages were reported overnight in parts of Ukraine following ongoing Russian strikes on energy infrastructure, including a power plant. Zelensky on Monday said Kyiv was willing to honour the energy ceasefire if Russia agrees to it as well. "We agree if they agree," he said. "We have already shown that we mean it. Last night Russian oil refineries were not attacked," he added.
Meanwhile, the Financial Times reported that the US is threatening to stop the procurement system, Purl, that provides Ukraine with weapons in order to press Kyiv to stop its deep strikes on Russian energy infrastructure.
Zelensky says EU to provide €3bn in military funding this week
The EU will disburse almost €3bn (£2.5bn) in defence support to Ukraine this week as part of its €90bn (£76bn) support loan, Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky said.
"We deeply appreciate every concrete step taken to support our defense and our people," Zelensky said.
Since Russia’s full-scale invasion in February 2022, EU countries have provided €200bn (£169 bn) in economic, financial, and military support to Ukraine and approved €90bn (£76bn) more over the next two years as an EU support loan.
Macron says there is no sign of Russia respecting any Ukraine energy ceasefire
French president Emmanuel Macron today said he had not seen any signs in the last 48 hours of Russia respecting any form of Ukraine energy ceasefire deal.

"I have not noted, over the last 48 hours, any energy ceasefire coming from the Russian side," Macron added.

Burnham becomes first PM to confirm Russian interference in Brexit vote
Andy Burnham has said Russia “clearly” interfered in the 2016 Brexit referendum after he left open the door to the UK rejoining the EU.
The prime minister revealed that he had asked, on his arrival in No 10 this summer, whether Moscow had been involved in the vote - and was given “the clear answer that yes, there was”.
The comments, made during an appearance on the Rest is Politics podcast, are thought to be the first time a PM has confirmed meddling by the Kremlin and will fuel speculation Mr Burnham wants to reverse Brexit.

German foreign minister says EU sanctions make Putin's war harder
German foreign minister Johann Wadephul says new European sanctions are making it more difficult for Russian president Vladimir Putin to continue the war in Ukraine.
“Today, the EU is adding more individuals and companies to its sanctions list than ever before – well over 1,600 in total. Nearly all of them play a direct or indirect role in Russia’s war efforts,” Wadephul said in a statement.
The EU approved 1,646 new designations last week under the bloc's sanctions regime for Russia, with most targeting the country's military-industrial complex, diplomats said.
Blackouts reported in Ukraine despite Trump's 'energy ceasefire'
Power outages were reported overnight in parts of Ukraine following ongoing Russian strikes on energy infrastructure, including a power plant.
Volodymyr Zelensky said such strikes continued hours after US president Donald Trump announced that Russia had agreed to a limited ceasefire on energy targets. The Kremlin has yet to confirm or deny those claims.
The blackouts were reported across several streets in the Ukrainian city of Izyum in Kharkiv oblast, the same region where Zelensky said a power plant was hit.
Ukrinform, a Ukrainian state media outlet, said power lines were damaged in a Russian missile strike on a residential area to the north of the city, where one person was injured.
