A 38-year-old man has been banned from attending football matches for two years for his involvement in fan disorder at Celtic’s Premiership title celebrations.

Two officers were seriously injured and three members of the public needed hospital treatment after thousands of Celtic fans descended on the Trongate area of Glasgow to celebrate their team’s win over Hearts on May 16.

Some fans were seen climbing traffic lights and other objects, and police said officers had glass bottles and other missiles thrown at them amid what they described as “unacceptable violence”.

The crowds were eventually dispersed by officers wearing riot gear.

Police Scotland said Liam Connolly pleaded guilty to a breach of the peace offence at Glasgow Sheriff Court in October and was given a Community Payback Order and subject to a two-year Football Banning Order.

“We will not tolerate disorder and hostility of any kind and those involved will pay the consequences.”
