Aldi is investing around £19.5 million in Scotland in 2027, including plans for a new supermarket in South Lanarkshire and extensions to five existing stores.

The funding forms part of the retailer’s wider £900 million UK investment programme, which will support 40 new store openings nationwide and continued investment in its distribution network.

The new Scottish store is planned for Uddingston, while extensions are scheduled for existing supermarkets in Alloa, Leven, St Andrews, Gilmerton Road in Edinburgh and Motherwell.

The projects will provide additional shopping space and improved store layouts as Aldi continues to expand its presence across Scotland.

The supermarket currently operates 113 stores in Scotland and employs more than 3,600 people. Across the UK, it has 1,095 stores and aims to reach 1,500 in the longer term, with a focus on communities where affordable grocery options are limited.

Further Scottish investment is also planned, with new stores in Uddingston and Dumbarton scheduled for 2026. Aldi has outlined a further £43 million investment in Scotland over the next two years, including extensions at stores in Greenock, Perth, Linlithgow, Paisley and Stirling.

The retailer said its expansion would create additional shopping options for customers and support opportunities for British suppliers.
