Aujla Foundation'sSeptember Seva commitment sees Tudor Hotel**provide freshly prepared meals - with an even bigger community initiative planned for October

The Tudor Hotel in Airdrie has supported the newly established Aujla Foundation in providing more than 250 people with free, freshly prepared hot meals, as part of a community initiative inspired by the Sikh principle of Seva — selfless service.

The Aujla Foundation, founded by Suraj Aujla, partnered with Councillor Sophia Coyle and Plains Food Bank for the September initiative, which took place at St David's Church in Plains, Airdrie.

The Tudor Hotel provided the food for the initiative, with freshly prepared curry and rice served completely free of charge to more than 250 people from the local community.

The project formed the Aujla Foundation's September commitment to the community, with the Foundation now preparing an even bigger initiative for October.

INSPIRED BY THE SIKH PRINCIPLE OF SEVA

The Aujla Foundation was established by Suraj Aujla with the aim of putting Sikh values into practical action within communities.

At the heart of the Foundation is Seva, the principle of selfless service — giving time, effort and resources to help others without expecting anything in return.

The Foundation is also inspired by the Sikh tradition of Langar, where food is shared freely and everyone is welcomed regardless of religion, race, wealth, social status or background.

While these Sikh principles provide the inspiration behind the Foundation, its work is intended to benefit everyone in the community.

Founder Suraj Aujla said: "The idea behind the Aujla Foundation is simple — if we're in a position to help people, then we should.

"September was about taking the Sikh principle of Seva and turning it into real action. With the Tudor Hotel providing the food and the support of Councillor Sophia Coyle and Plains Food Bank, we were able to serve more than 250 people with a freshly prepared hot meal.

"For us, this isn't about one event or one day. September was our commitment, and now we're working on something even bigger for October.

"We want to build this month after month and encourage other people, businesses and organisations to get involved.

"Although the Foundation is inspired by Sikh values, our support is for everyone. It doesn't matter what religion you follow, where you come from or what your circumstances are. If somebody needs support and we're in a position to help, that's what we want to do."

VOLUNTEERS WANTED

Following the September initiative, the Aujla Foundation is now looking for volunteers who want to support its future community projects.

The Foundation is encouraging people to follow and support the Aujla Foundation's social media page, share its work and get involved with upcoming initiatives.

It is also interested in developing partnerships with local businesses, food banks, charities, churches, Gurdwaras, community organisations and other groups that want to make a positive contribution to their communities.

SOMETHING BIGGER FOR OCTOBER

Planning is already underway for the Foundation's October commitment, which aims to build on the success of September and reach even more people.

Further details will be announced through the Aujla Foundation's social media channels.

The Aujla Foundation is asking local and national journalists, newspapers, broadcasters and community publications to help share its story.

By raising awareness of the Foundation's work, the organisation hopes to attract more volunteers and partners and, most importantly, reach more people and communities who could benefit from future initiatives.

Professional photographs from the September event are available for publication, and interviews with founder Suraj Aujla can also be arranged.

The Aujla Foundation was founded by Suraj Aujla to support communities through charitable action inspired by Sikh principles including Seva, equality, compassion and sharing food with others.

The Foundation aims to develop a continuing programme of community initiatives and partnerships supporting people regardless of faith, ethnicity, background or circumstances.
