Hookstone and Stonefall Action Group (HASAG) has received an Outstanding award in the Yorkshire in Bloom competition for its work in the community.
The group entered the competition’s It’s Your Neighbourhood category and said it was delighted with the result.
At its committee meeting on 29 September, members reviewed ongoing work across the site, including grass cutting, wildflower management and improvements to the entrance area.
The group is also considering installing an owl box, with a contractor estimating £145 plus VAT to install one box. Members are exploring plans for a new noticeboard and intend to arrange their annual general meeting in November.
Concerns about the former tip
During the meeting, members raised concerns about a gabion near the Eleanor Road entrance, which they said appeared to be sinking, alongside cracking and sloping of the adjacent path.
The group also wants clarification about the monitoring of methane at the former tip site and whether effluent entering a stream from the site is currently monitored. Members said they wanted to establish who is responsible for these matters.
HASAG has not provided further details of any recent monitoring or responses from the relevant authorities.
The group plans to confirm the date of its AGM and has invited suggestions for a guest speaker.
