North Yorkshire Police issue appeal after Knaresborough public toilets targeted again causing £1,000 worth of damage

North Yorkshire Police is appealing for information and witnesses after two public toilet blocks in Knaresborough were vandalised just days after another facility in the town was forced to close following repeated attacks.

Police are investigating two incidents of criminal damage at public toilets in the town after vandals caused around £1,000 worth of damage.

The police are appealing for information and witnesses after public toilets in the Castle Yard car park and on Fisher Street in Knaresborough were vandalised just days after another facility in the town was forced to close following repeated attacks

The damage occurred between October 9 and October 10 at the public toilet facilities in the Castle Yard car park and on Fisher Street.

According to North Yorkshire Police, offenders threw water-based paint over internal walls and forcibly removed a sink basin from a wall before smashing it.

The latest incident comes less than a week after Knaresborough Town Council announced the temporary closure of the town's public toilets in Market Place following repeated acts of vandalism.

At the time, Knaresborough West Councillor Matt Walker described the damage as "deeply disappointing and disgusting", saying the repeated attacks were having a significant impact on both residents and visitors,

Officers is now appealing for anyone who witnessed suspicious activity in the area during the two-day period, or who has information that could assist the investigation, to come forward.

A spokesperson at North Yorkshire Police said: "Incidents such as these have a direct impact on the local community and result in unnecessary repair costs to public facilities."
