A man charged with encouraging a second man to kill his sister has been remanded in custody by York magistrates.

Cristi Chiriac, 25, is the second man to be charged following a fatal crash on the A1(M) in North Yorkshire.

Elena Chiriac, 22, of Newcastle, died in the collision between a silver Ford Transit and a silver Volkswagen Golf, on October 4.

Her brother Florin Chiriac, 31, of Hampstead Road, Newcastle, has been charged with her murder, attempted grievous bodily harm of a third man, and a dangerous driving charge.

Cristi Chiriac appeared before York magistrates charged with encouraging Florin Chiriac to murder his sister or cause her death by dangerous driving by deliberately causing a collision.

The younger defendant did not enter a plea.

Magistrates sent him to the crown court to be tried by a judge and jury and remanded him in custody.

His next court appearance will be a plea and trial preparation hearing before a crown court judge.

Florin Chiriac was remanded in custody by Leeds Crown Court last week and will next appear for a plea and trial preparation hearing at the same court on November 6.
