A POPULAR York city-centre nightclub is set to shut later this month - ahead of a refurbishment and relaunch under new management.
Popworld, located in George Hudson Street in York city centre, has revealed that it will be closing its doors before the venue is reopened under new management as Replay York.
This will follow a two-week refurbishment and rebrand, which will see the venue temporarily closed before a new look club will open its doors on Thursday, October 29.

Connor Heywood, the venue’s new manager, confirmed the news to The Press today saying: "We want to reassure everyone that Popworld isn’t disappearing because the venue is closing permanently.
"We’re simply giving it a fresh new look and a new name. We know how popular Popworld has been over the years, and we don’t want to lose what makes the venue special.
"Our aim is to build on that and make it even better. We’re really excited about the plans and can’t wait to welcome everyone back at the end of October."
Connor - who has been working in hospitality in Yorkshire for over a decade - was keen to stress that the changes will modernise the experience, without losing the elements that made Popworld so popular.
The venue will retain its focus on party music, nostalgic throwback anthems, and "a lively, feel-good atmosphere".
He added: "Replay will be very similar to what people already know and love about Popworld.

"We’re keeping the fun atmosphere, the music and the party experience, but bringing everything up to date.
"For regular Popworld customers, the message is simple: same great party, exciting new look, and a brand-new name."
The rebrand comes amid speculation about the future of the club, but the new management team have emphasised that the closure is only temporary.
The refurbishment will include upgraded signage, refreshed bar and club interiors, neon-inspired décor, improved lighting and entertainment, updated drinks menus, and new promotional offers.
A Stonegate Group spokesperson said: “As part of our ongoing estate review, we’ve made the decision to transition Popworld, York to our leased and tenanted estate.
"We have a new publican lined up and expect the venue to reopen in the coming weeks. We look forward to welcoming guests back soon.”
Replay York have said they will continue to host weekly themed events and club nights, with full details of the revamped event line-up to be announced in the coming weeks.
The nightclub will officially reopen on Thursday, October 29, 2026, with a grand opening weekend set to introduce guests to the new-look venue and full details to follow.
